OTHER ANTI THEFT SYSTEMS DO NOT
COMPARE TO THE RAVELCO
Does your car have one of the following anti theft devices installed?
Read why you are not protected if you rely on an alarm system, tracking
device, or key code.
TRACKING DEVICE
Vehicle recovery systems or tracking systems
are designed to do one thing, and that is to get your vehicle back after it has been stolen. It is a
common misconception to believe that they provide protection against theft when in reality
they come into play only after your vehicle is gone. Reported by the Boston Police
Dept, the city in which the idea originated : by the
time the victim reports their vehicle stolen, (usually the next day) it has already been
stripped and dumped.
If the owner of the stolen vehicle is lucky, the thief will not have found
and removed the tracking transponder while stripping the vehicle, and the
tracking system will lead the police to the abandoned shell of the
vehicle. Nowadays, the thieves are locating, removing, and throwing away
the tracking transponder. Unfortunately, law enforcement officers continue
tracking the signal thinking it is still coming from the stolen vehicle, until
they track it to a dumpster in a back alley somewhere. The point of
protecting your investment should be to PREVENT the
theft!
CAR ALARM
These systems make all their connections right under the dash. Every car thief knows this, and
can quickly bypass the unprotected wires in a matter of seconds. No one pays attention to car alarms and thieves
know that if an alarm goes off, no one will look, especially if the siren is
silenced in 5 - 10 seconds (the time it takes them to clip the siren wire). For
this reason, alarms do not even prevent a thief from breaking the window, or breaking open
the door.
According to the non-profit Highway Loss Data Institute, cars with alarms “show no overall
reduction in theft losses” compared to cars without alarms.
VEHICLE CODE-KEY SYSTEM
A key code system has a miniature transponder embedded in the ignition key head. The
computer transmits a radio signal to the key, which then returns an ID number. If the
onboard computer recognizes that ID, it enables the ignition and starting
system. Most people feel this is a foolproof system as the key must match the
computer. However, this system can be defeated quickly by even less sophisticated thieves using a
process called 'computer swapping.' They go to junkyards and buy a computer with the matching
key (or 'borrow' them from a friend with the same car). Then they break into the car, pop open the
hood, unplug the car's computer, plug their computer in and they have the key to start
your car in under 30 seconds!
FREQUENTLY ASKED QUESTIONS:
- 4,000,000
SOLD SINCE 1976? WHY HAVEN'T I HEARD OF RAVELCO?
The bottom line is this: the manufacturer, based in Texas,
does little to no advertising. Ravelco has been a successful business for nearly
30 years on the strength of the product, the
articles written about it, and the word of mouth from satisfied customers.
Ravelco is a family owned business that is not looking to grow into a large
company with a large advertising budget to maintain. They have been making the
Ravelco Anti-Theft Device for nearly 30 years which works just as well in
today's cars, as in older ones.
- WHY
WOULD I NEED A RAVELCO?
MY VEHICLE ALREADY HAS AN
ALARM INSTALLED BY THE FACTORY.
Conventional wisdom says — and research shows, that car alarms don't prevent
car theft. According to the non-profit Highway Loss Data Institute, which
surveyed insurance-claims data from 73 million vehicles nationwide in 1997, cars
with alarms show no overall reduction in theft losses compared to cars without
alarms. Ask yourself this: When you hear a car alarm siren, do you think someone
is breaking into the car, or do you think it's a false alarm? Most
people think the sounds of car alarms are false alarms, because most of the
time, they are.
- THE
CAR SALESPEOPLE TOLD ME MY VEHICLE ALREADY HAS A FACTORY ANTI-THEFT DEVICE BUILT
INTO ITS IGNITION KEY. IS THIS ENOUGH TO PREVENT MY CAR FROM BEING STOLEN?
Transponder-based anti-theft systems are installed on almost all new General
Motors, Ford, Chrysler and Toyota vehicles, at no charge. They feature a
computer chip embedded in the ignition key, which emits a signal to the
vehicle's computer system in the steering column to identify the
"real" ignition key and allow the vehicle to start. These systems are
easy to beat and bypass modules are readily available via the internet.
Please see above.
- WHAT
GUARANTEES DO YOU PROVIDE REGARDING THE QUALITY OF THE RAVELCO INSTALLATION?
We are so confident in the quality of the Ravelco Anti-Theft Device and our
installation that we offer a Lifetime Warranty for
the original owner. All connections are either
soldered, or are crimped with a copper connector, then covered in a marine
quality adhesive heat shrink to insure the best possible connection. Connections
made this way are often stronger than the original wire. All wires look exactly
like factory wiring. We've installed Ravelcos in everything from 1965 Mustangs,
to Ferraris and Porsches and each install is done with the highest quality parts
and workmanship.
- WHAT
HAPPENS IF I LOSE MY RAVELCO PLUG?
The Ravelco Anti-Theft Device comes with two plugs, so that you
have a spare as a back-up. Additional plugs may be
ordered and generally can be shipped to customers right away with
proof of identification.
- WHY
DOESN'T THE RAVELCO HAVE A "RED FLASHING LIGHT" TO HELP WARD OFF
THIEVES?
Auto thieves are not timid, and a red flashing light does absolutely nothing to
prevent auto theft or break-ins. Many vehicles with full-blown alarm systems and
red flashing warning lights are stolen each day, which proves that the
only red lights that car thieves run from are the ones on top of police cars.
The Ravelco system includes two warning labels that attach to each side window.
